Jason Klein’s living with the fallout from a decision he knew was the right one at the time. He never told anyone about the love of his life, which left him to mourn alone when he found out the man he gave his heart to had been killed in combat. Now, his heart has had time to heal, but he’s not sure he’s ready to let himself move on. Until he meets Cam Morgan…

Without a job lined up following graduation, Cam Morgan took his best friend up on his offer to move to Milwaukee and stay with him until he could get on his feet. The last thing he wanted to do the day after getting to town was go to a party filled with a bunch of jocks. Sure, they were “professional athletes” but Cam was convinced that bigger bank accounts didn’t make them any more accepting of people like him. He certainly didn’t expect to meet Jason, the Mavericks’ catcher who broke every stereotype he’d had.

What started out as one hot, sweaty night together quickly grows into something deeper. Jason welcomes Cam into his home and his life, but now he has to teach the younger man that it’s not a sign of weakness to let people help you.

Curve Ball Homeruns Book 2 edition by Sloan Johnson Literature Fiction eBooks

There is a scene in this one where the somewhat obviously gay Cameron Morgan explains the details of what goes into a balk, which surprises the heck out of other characters and is one of the best explanations I've ever seen about that obtuse ruling.

It's also a good example of the kind of bait-and-switch author Johnson throws out there between Cam and Jason Klein, the catcher for the Milwaukee Mavericks who comes between Cam and his long-time best friend (and Jason's teammate) Drew.

The insta-attraction between Jason and Cam, hinted strongly at the end of the first book in the series, becomes steamy and in many ways illogical given the fact that Jason is in the closet, as is Drew. That's sort of a mess because in the first book they were clearly identified as close friends of Sean and Mason, whose somewhat hasty G4U romance steamed up the pages.

I loved a lot of things about this one, especially the depth of guilt and despair Jason has over losing his only lover Adam in a suspicious Army training accident, and the strength Cam has in trying to put his professional and personal life on a path that will keep him close to his best friend Drew, and into the arms of Jason.

This is an incongruous (and hot) couple, and the Mavericks "family" is both idealized yet a hoot. In fact, the whole book is sort of a hoot because you can see it all coming a mile away--including the characters in the next in this series which I will read shortly.

●▬▬▬▬๑۩ 5STAR REVIEW ۩๑▬▬▬▬▬●

When you find your soulmate you feel complete, however when he is taken from you, life will have no meaning and no one will ever fill that void in your soul. But what if you get to have a due over with someone that is a broken soul as you? Will you give it a try or let it go?

Jason Klein was the Sean Tucker's best friend and teammate has not been able to let go of his true love Adam the man that holds a very special place in his heart and knows he's his guardian angel. When Jason meets Cam Morgan a friend of Drew Jackson another teammate of his, Jason didn't know what to make of the feelings he felt when he looked in Cam's eyes.

Cam had so many demons to battle and knew he could never let anyone see him as a weak person like he was seen when he was growing up. So when Jason shows his protective side things will not go the way they should unless this two battled their demons together to help each other be the person they each need.

Oh my goodness this was a very passionate story, Jason and Cam will take you to one of the most emotional ride you can imagine. The plot was so beautifully writen that will make you love this two characters as if they were real.

This M/M story will have you become a big fan of this genre if you not already are. I recommend for you to read this book you will love it as much as I do.

Gifted by author in exchange for an honest review.

Cam has learned from the time he was little that people disappoint you. He believes it's easier to move on rather than work on a relationship hoping that things will to change. His only constant is his best friend Drew. Right after high school Cam up and leaves Chicago to get away from everything that has hurt him. He ends up in Boston attending one of the best culinary schools.
Cam has since graduated and is looking to find a job where he can put his love of cooking and skills to work.
While he searches for a job he decides to return back to Chicago and stay with Drew. Drew is part of the MLB and is only home off and on. This will allow Cam some time with his friend but also time to himself. When Drew asks him to go with him to a party filled with baseball players Cam reluctantly agrees. Last thing he really wants to be is around a bunch of egotistical jocks. However, this all changes when he meets Jason.

Jason has a past that haunts him. The man he loved was killed seven years ago while serving in the military. The one thing Jason regrets is hiding their relationship and not being able to shout out his love before it was too late. Since Adam's death, Jason has closed himself off, not willing to be hurt again. His focus is on the job and that's it. He is the catcher for the Mavericks. He isn't thrilled about going to his friend's party today, but knows he can't get out of it. Once Jason arrives, his view of attending the party abruptly changes. Jason sees the stunning blond haired man who in no way is a baseball player. This is the first time in years that Jason has feelings of desire towards another man. Jason is determined to find out who he is and why he is there.

What starts out as conversation ends in a night of hot sex. Neither man wants to end it there, but continuing to see each other could be a big mistake. Will Jason finally be able to let go of the guilt and open his heart back up? Can Cam learn to depend on another without feeling weak and wanting to run?

Curve Ball by Sloan Johnson is book two in The Homerun series. I have been wanting to read Jason's story since I finished the first book and finally had the opportunity to do so. Once again, the writing captivates you till the end. I loved Jason and my heart ached for the hurt he has endured. I adored Cam. He was sweet but also a spitfire. I was happy to see how the characters in previous books were doing. I love how they continuously support their friends, but are not afraid to let them know when they are messing up. I'm looking forward to reading book 3, Triple Play, soon.

Curve Ball can be read as a standalone but to fully understand the characters, I recommend starting with Wild Pitch, book one.

If you enjoy reading a love story that is sports based, I highly recommend Sloan Johnson's Home Run series.
